Novel Synthesis

Slumdog Millionaire and "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost have a similar connection. They are related because in the poem it describes how someone takes one path and eventually on that particular path you will branch off onto other paths, making every path effect another. But more specifically its about the choices you make and how they effect your lifestyle. If you decide to go down one path or make a certain decision in life, wouldn't you want to go back and try making another decision or going down the other path just to see if what would happen and prove that "that has made all the difference". Ram had two paths to choose from, both looked identical but for some reason he felt like choosing the one from the other "Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,"

In slumdog millionaire there are messages of both fate and personal choice. For Ram Mohammad Thomas making a decision is simply decided by the flip of coin. This coin is no ordinary coin it is double sided. Ram believes that "luck comes from within" and whatever choice you make, you have total control over it. It is such a coincidence that Ram is asked 12 questions which he knew because of his past experiences in life. He had no idea that he was going to be put in those situations throughout his life in order to answer those questions. This proves that it was an act of fate.
